Issue April 2013

There are almost 400,000 more residents and 1.5M visitors driving the same roads as compared to 40 years ago. Despite road widening and other improvement efforts, it is critical to properly maintain and repair our trunk routes and neighborhood roads as they are taking a pounding day in and day out.

O'ahu is going through the largest construction boom in history. At an estimated $15B in work over the next 5 years; $15,000 per resident will be spent to re-invest in being able to live on O'ahu for the next 50 years. Paving of the Roads will be a key component to O'ahu's infrastructure investment. The current pavement condition of the City's 3,400 lane miles (State has 1,700 more), 46% (or 1,500) is not acceptable. Mayor Caldwell's vision of accomplishing this work over 5-years is worth supporting.

With all this work ahead of all of us, we believe Traffic Control Management is critical to advise motorists and coordinate construction work zones that detour traffic to alternate routes. As fellow Islanders, we all need to work with and support the State & City combined efforts as they collaborate together to help us in Improving Island Life.

PS: We won some awards, check out below!

LYON Island Engineers are creatively looking at ways to make all this work. We believe a solution exists working with the community as we will all be affected by longer drive times.
